La Carta de Invitación para Extranjeros es uno de los instrumentos más usados, y al mismo tiempo más subestimados, en la práctica de movilidad internacional Argentina. Las empresas que invitan extranjeros para reuniones de negocios, capacitaciones o congresos suelen tratarla como trámite formal de oficina, hasta que un consulado argentino les rechaza la nota por defectos de forma o por inconsistencias con la inscripción RENURE de la empresa.The Letter of Invitation for Foreigners is one of the most widely used, and at the same time most underestimated, instruments in Argentine international mobility practice. Companies that invite foreign nationals for business meetings, training sessions or conferences tend to treat it as a routine clerical formality, until an Argentine consulate rejects the letter for defects of form or for inconsistencies with the company’s RENURE registration.
La realidad es más estricta de lo que parece: la Carta de Invitación es un instrumento jurídico-administrativo con requisitos formales específicos, certificaciones notariales obligatorias, contenido reglado y un destinatario consular concreto. Qué es la Carta de InvitaciónWhat the Letter of Invitation is
Es una nota formal emitida por una persona física o jurídica radicada en Argentina (el "invitante" o "requirente") dirigida a la autoridad consular argentina en el exterior, mediante la cual se solicita formalmente que dé inicio al trámite de visado de uno o varios extranjeros que vienen al país a desarrollar actividades profesionales puntuales.It is a formal letter issued by an individual or legal entity established in Argentina (the “inviting party” or “sponsor”) addressed to the Argentine consular authority abroad, through which it formally requests that the visa process be opened for one or more foreign nationals coming to the country to carry out specific professional activities.

La Carta de Invitación NO garantiza el otorgamiento de la visa. Habilita al consulado a abrir el trámite. La decisión sobre el visado es del cónsul, basada en el conjunto completo de la documentación.The Letter of Invitation does NOT guarantee that the visa will be granted. La empresa cambia de gerente general hace 6 meses y no actualiza el RENURE. El nuevo gerente firma la Carta de Invitación. El cónsul detecta la inconsistencia y rechaza la nota. Es el error más caro y repetido que vemos: tres semanas perdidas para el congreso al que tenía que ir el extranjero, y la solución es lo que tendría que haberse hecho 6 meses antes: actualizar el RENURE.The company changed its general manager 6 months ago and never updated RENURE. The new manager signs the Letter of Invitation. The consul detects the inconsistency and rejects the letter. It is the most costly and most repeated mistake we see: three weeks lost for the conference the foreign national was meant to attend, and the solution is exactly what should have been done 6 months earlier: update the RENURE.
Toda persona física o jurídica que emita una Carta de Invitación debe estar previamente inscripta en el RENURE de la DNM. El número RENURE debe constar expresamente en la Carta. Sin número RENURE, el consulado no procesa la nota: la devuelve sin abrir trámite.Every individual or legal entity that issues a Letter of Invitation must first be registered with the DNM’s RENURE. The RENURE number must be stated expressly in the Letter. Without a RENURE number, the consulate does not process the letter: it returns it without opening any process.
Y peor: el firmante de la Carta debe ser una de las personas autorizadas que constan en el RENURE como firmantes habilitados. Si la persona que firma no está declarada en el RENURE como firmante autorizado, la Carta es inválida desde el punto de vista formal.And worse: the signatory of the Letter must be one of the authorized persons listed in RENURE as permitted signatories. If the person who signs is not declared in RENURE as an authorized signatory, the Letter is invalid from a formal standpoint.
Requisitos formales de la Carta de InvitaciónFormal requirements of the Letter of Invitation
Cancillería argentina (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) establece requisitos específicos. La Carta debe:The Argentine Foreign Ministry (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) sets out specific requirements. The Letter must:
- — Estar redactada en español.Be drafted in Spanish.
- — Estar dirigida a la autoridad consular interviniente con tratamiento adecuado.Be addressed to the relevant consular authority with the appropriate form of address.
- — Incluir el número de inscripción RENURE de la empresa o persona invitante.Include the RENURE registration number of the inviting company or individual.
- — Contener firma y cargo del invitante, firmante autorizado en RENURE.Contain the signature and title of the inviting party, who must be an authorized signatory in RENURE.
- — Tener firma certificada por Escribano Público y, según el caso, legalizada por Colegio de Escribanos.Bear a signature certified by a Notary Public and, where applicable, legalized by the Notaries Association.
- — Enviarse en original por correo postal a la Embajada o Consulado donde el extranjero gestionará el visado.Be sent in original by postal mail to the Embassy or Consulate where the foreign national will process the visa.
Cuando la invitación es para varios extranjeros que tramitarán visa en la misma representación consular, se puede elaborar una nómina con datos completos. La firma certificada por escribano no es opcional.When the invitation covers several foreign nationals who will process their visa at the same consular post, a schedule with complete details can be drawn up. A notary-certified signature is not optional.
Tres escenarios típicos donde la Carta de Invitación fallaThree typical scenarios where the Letter of Invitation fails
Escenario 1 — La empresa que no está en RENURE. Una empresa argentina necesita invitar un experto desde Alemania. Cuando contacta al consulado argentino en Berlín, descubre que sin RENURE no se procesa la Carta. La inscripción RENURE toma entre 5 y 10 días. La auditoría se posterga 1 mes.Scenario 1 — The company that is not in RENURE. An Argentine company needs to invite an expert from Germany. When it contacts the Argentine consulate in Berlin, it discovers that without RENURE the Letter is not processed. RENURE registration takes between 5 and 10 days. The audit is pushed back by one month.
Escenario 2 — El firmante incorrecto. Una multinacional con RENURE vigente emite Carta firmada por su nueva CEO. El consulado detecta que la nueva CEO no está declarada como firmante autorizado en el RENURE. La Carta queda invalidada hasta que se actualice el registro.Scenario 2 — The wrong signatory. A multinational with an active RENURE registration issues a Letter signed by its new CEO. The consulate detects that the new CEO is not declared as an authorized signatory in RENURE. The Letter is rendered invalid until the registration is updated.
Escenario 3 — La invitación fuera de encuadre. Una empresa quiere invitar a un experto para que "venga a trabajar 3 meses" pero gestiona la entrada como Carta de Invitación por negocios. La actividad real configura Visa de Asistencia Técnica o Visa de Trabajo. La Carta es desestimada o el extranjero entra mal y compromete el compliance migratorio del programa.Scenario 3 — The miscategorized invitation. A company wants to invite an expert to “come and work for 3 months” but arranges the entry as a business Letter of Invitation. The actual activity calls for a Technical Assistance Visa or a Work Visa. The Letter is dismissed, or the foreign national enters under the wrong category and undermines the program’s immigration compliance.
Diferencia entre Carta de Invitación y otros instrumentosDifference between the Letter of Invitation and other instruments
Para asignaciones cortas y puntuales, la Carta correctamente emitida es el instrumento adecuado. Para asignaciones de mediano o largo plazo, se requieren los otros instrumentos en lugar de, o además de, la Carta.For short, one-off assignments, a properly issued Letter is the appropriate instrument. For medium- or long-term assignments, the other instruments are required instead of, or in addition to, the Letter.
- — Carta de Invitación: para iniciar trámite de visado en consulado argentino, generalmente para actividades acotadas (visa de negocios, eventos).Letter of Invitation: to open a visa process at an Argentine consulate, generally for limited activities (business visa, events).
